Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition. Those
particularly at risk are: people working on computers,
machinists, factory workers and those performing repetitive motions
with their hands, arms, shoulders and neck. Typical symptoms
include:
- Arm, hand, or wrist pain or weakness
- Arm or hand numbness
- Numbness in the first fingers and thumb (the little finger is unaffected)
- Hand, wrist or thumb pain, especially at night
This condition is very often misdiagnosed because similar symptoms can occur from problems in other areas such as the neck, shoulder, and thumb. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when there is excessive pressure on the median nerve as it passes through the narrow opening in the wrist referred to as the carpal tunnel.
Treatment for carpal tunnel includes wrist
adjustment,
ergonomic
correction,
nutritional
advice,
ultrasound
under water,
wrist braces
and
exercise.
